Although it's a little late, here are my reactions to the favorite cartoon character activity.
My definite favorite part about the activity was getting to know everyone in class a little better. Having class via Zoom makes it a lot harder to form those friendships that being in physical class makes possible. I miss turning to the person next to me to say a funny remark or being able to look around the class and see the stickers on people's water bottles. This activity was a fun way to continue the relationships we'd started forming in the first few months of class even without being in SCHAR 2001 (which I think was our classroom). Someone's favorite cartoon character says a lot about a person, and it was really fun hearing what everyone's response was.
How, you ask, does someone's favorite cartoon character say a lot about them? I'll use the example of myself. My favorite cartoon character is Cinderella because I don't watch many cartoons, but I love the Disney princesses. I'm a HUGE hopeless romantic, so the idea of finding my Prince Charming has always been a life goal. Besides that, I usually dress simply and comfortably, but I'm a sucker for putting on a pretty dress and going out to do something extravagant. I wish I could put on a huge blue ball gown and go to the Prince's ball, like Cinderella, and I get incredibly jealous of this whenever I watch the movies. Are all of these reason to like Cinderella a little surface-level? Maybe. But, it does say a lot about me, as did everyone else's contributions to the activity.

I've always been curious as to why girls growing up have such an infatuation with Disney princesses. Maybe the romanticism of the princesses explains it. Anyway, I really enjoyed this activity too - this entire quarantine experience has reminded me of my childhood and different things that comforted me then. You'll be happy to know that my sister is a huge Cinderella fan (or at least she was hahaha)!
ReplyDeleteI love how you showed that cartoon characters can say a lot about people. I was a big fan of the Disney princesses growing up too.
