Blast from the Past

In filling out my survey for the Honors Laureate ceremony, I was asked to recount one of my fondest memories at TCU, and this lead me and my best friend, Olivia, down a spiral of fun memories we had together. For this post, I wanted to just put some of those in writing, because I'm becoming very sentimental about my looming graduation.

Memory #1: Trying to learn the Fake ID line dance at 1:00 in the morning
I was always an adamant Billy Bobs goer, but being from the Midwest means I didn't have previous knowledge of the common southern line dances. After my first few times Bobs experiences, I made it my mission to learn all of the ones they played every week, including the hardest one to Fake ID by Big & Rich. One Friday night, I recruited Olivia to try and learn it with me. We hooked up Olivia's computer to our sorority house's TV, and watched the tutorial video over and over and over again. We worked on it for about 2 hours before Olivia's roommate, Anna, came down and told us our music and laughter was too loud for it being so late at night. Olivia and I looked at each and fell into a fit of giggles because of how absolutely terrible we were at this dance, and despite not coming close to mastering it that night, it's a night with my best friend I will never forget.

Memory #2: Taking a picture with our writing workshop professor
Olivia and I took a Creative Nonfiction Writing Workshop class together one semester, and in the class were two of our other sorority sister friends who we ended up being in a workshop group with. We four would often write about experiences within our sorority, and it slowly became a running theme in most of our work since we wrote things together in class a lot. One magical day, we found out that our professor, who we all loved, was in our sorority. We basically freaked out in class while no one else had any idea what we were doing, and we spent the next few weeks mulling over what we could do with this information. We finally decided we HAD to take a picture with our professor to put in our sorority house, but none of us had the guts to ask her to do this. FINALLY on the last day of class, Olivia went up and told her how proud we were to call her a sister and asked if we could all take a picture together. She very happily agreed, and we still have a copy of that picture hanging up to this day.

Memory #3: Turning our textbooks into hats
The same semester Olivia and I took the Creative Nonfiction class together, we also accidentally ended up in a British literature class together. This class was one of the most boring classes we'd ever taken, and by the time our final came around, we were very much done with the class. Since neither of us wanted to get a bad grade, we dutifully got together at BLUU2 to study one afternoon, but spent most of the time complaining to each other about the class. By the end of our session, we were so fed up and tired of studying we decided to open the book and simply put in our head like a hat in hopes the information would soak into our brains through osmosis so we didn't have to actively think about the course material anymore. I'm sure numerous people thought we were crazy, but that's what finals week will to do a person!

To conclude: please enjoy this picture of Olivia and I at a football game this season.
